09/04/2026, Brussels – In his capacity as Director of the Belgian Coordination Unit for Threat Analysis (CUTA), Gert Vercauteren welcomed a delegation from Switzerland. This working visit was led by Beat Jans, Federal Minister and Head of the Department of Justice and Police.

“Terrorism and extremism go beyond Belgium’s national borders” states Gert Vercauteren (CUTA). “We are strong proponents of enhanced European and international cooperation. To that end, we maintain close ties with foreign partner services. These strong contacts are essential in order to better understand each other’s situations.”

Beat Jans has been serving as Swiss Federal Minister and Head of the Department of Justice and Police since 2024. He expressed his appreciation for the visit: “Like Belgium, Switzerland is confronted with a wide range of security challenges. No country can address them alone. In federal systems such as Belgium and Switzerland, this also requires structured coordination between different levels of government and the competent authorities.”

The aim of the working visit was to exchange experiences and expertise, with CUTA presenting its mandate and operations. The added value of fusion centres such as CUTA in the fight against extremism and terrorism was discussed. Many fusion centres emerged in Europe at the beginning of this century in order to bring together information and expertise from security and intelligence services as a response to complex challenges such as terrorist and extremist threats.
